Pig's Ear Beer and Cider Festival 2014

The annual real ale festival returns to the Round Chapel from 2 to 6 December

IT'S a sure sign that Christmas is round the corner when the Pig’s Ear Beer and Cider Festival is back in town.

As the public’s appetite for real ales, ciders and craft beers shows no sign of abating, this year’s Pig’s Ear is bigger and better than ever. Once again, it is being staged in the beautiful surroundings of Clapton’s Round Chapel (pictured).

Despite the irony of hosting a Bacchanlian beerfest in a place of temperance, this iconic Grade II-listed venue somehow works beautifully: small enough to lend intimacy to the occasion, but big enough to cater for the bewildering variety of ales on offer.

This year there are 400 ales and ciders to try out. Porters, stouts, IPAs, milds, brown ales, bitters, barley wines; truly something for everyone, including those who sported a beard when it wasn’t fashionable.

Pig’s Ear and the Round Chapel are becoming as synonymous with Christmas as holly and ivy, and the festival has become one of the most treasured events in the Hackney festive calendar.
