Make Hackney Sparkle: Christmas is here

Spot the Christmas trees around the borough created by a team of top fashion designers

HACKNEY is set to sparkle this Christmas with a bumper month of seasonal entertainment and events.

The Christmas lights have been switched on in Hackney Town Hall Square, kick starting the festive season. Cast members from Hackney Empire's panto 'Sleeping Beauty' joined residents for the official Christmas countdown on 27 November.

The Hackney Central tree was one of five fully decked out Christmas trees that have popped up across the borough – including in Dalston, Stoke Newington, Old Street and Lower Clapton.

Reflecting the borough’s reputation in the fashion world, the trees have been created by a team of top fashion designers: Henry Holland, Louby McLoughlin, Katie Eary, Mary Benson and Ashley Williams.

The Council-sponsored trees are part of the annual Make Hackney Sparkle programme of events. This year’s highlights include a host of Christmas markets, festive pop-ups, creative craft fairs, sparkly pantos, joyful carols, free Disney film screenings and even a (few) visits from Father Christmas himself.

Residents are also encouraged to shop local and grab a bite to eat in one of the borough’s many restaurants and cafes while on Christmas errands.

So pull on your cringey Christmas jumper, brave the cold, and go see what Hackney has to offer.
